Humidity Is Good For The Eyes Says Sharon Kleyne

Water Advocate Kleyne Explains Health Benefits of Humidity. Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® Provides Humidity When Your Eyes Need It.

If you live on the east coast or in the Midwest in the U.S. and it’s summer, you probably curse the humidity, which is frequently one hundred percent. But humidity is actually not only beneficial to our health—it’s essential.

Global water advocate Sharon Kleyne, founder of Bio-Logic Aqua® Research Water Life Science®, says that the eyes, skin, lungs and each body cell require a constant supply of oxygen and water in order to thrive. In other words, they all need to breathe. Without oxygen and water vapor (humidity), life as we know it could not exist. Our bodies need the breath of life!

Our visual health, according to Kleyne, depends on hydrating a thin film of water (the “tear film”) that refracts light, absorbs oxygen and keeps ocular tissue alive and moist. Dry air – which is air that is either polluted or has low humidity (water content) – can and often does cause a depletion of water in the eyes through the process of evaporation. This condition of evaporated water in the eyes is called “dry eye.” In our rapidly changing climate and our warming and drying global atmosphere, dry eye has become a crisis that threatens vision, productivity and health in every country on earth. Air pollution also contributes to the dry eye epidemic; so does dry indoor air from forced-air heating and cooling and insulated walls and windows. Universal use of computers also contributes. Nearly 100% of people who use computers more than two hours a day also experience occasional dry eye symptoms.

Kleyne, whose research in water and new water technology has earned the respect of scientists, educators, researchers and medical professionals around the world, has created Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® for dry eye symptoms. Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® contains Trade Secret tissue culture grade water that is pure and fresh. It is applied to the eye in the form of a patented micron-size mist via a personal, portable hand-held humidifier. “Nature’s Tears® EyeMist®,” says Kleyne, “is now empowering everyone in the world, whether they live in Nebraska, Egypt, China’s industrial heartland or a remote village in Kenya, to carry clean, moist, all-natural, unpolluted, 100% safe humidity in their pocket or purse, and to easily apply it to their dry and dehydrated eyes any time they choose.” This is nothing less than possessing personal humidity at your fingertips.

The benefits of Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® are many. The product is easy to apply. It requires no head tilting or holding eyelids open. Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® is a mist, not eye drops that can flood the tear film and may contain potentially allergenic chemicals and preservatives. There is no inconvenient eye dropper. Unused contents remain sterile inside a sealed unit and the product has a four-year shelf life.

Excessive Evaporation Causes Dry Eye Disease

Water Advocate Kleyne Fights Dehydration of the Eyes. Eyes Must Be Supplemented with Pure Water Says Water Researcher Kleyne.

Bio-Logic Aqua® Research Water Life Science® founder, Sharon Kleyne, has spent more than two decades educating others about dehydration and dry eye disease. Her internationally respected research has led to breakthroughs in the relief of dry eye and understanding the role excessive evaporation plays in a host of illnesses and diseases.

Evaporation is the change in the structure of water from a liquid state into a vapor or gaseous state. All liquid and frozen water evaporates. However, environmental factors such as dry air and warm temperatures accelerate the evaporation process. Evaporation of body water vapor into the atmosphere occurs constantly for all living things. As a result, the objective of living organisms is to slow down the evaporation process by supplementing the lost body water vapor with pure, fresh water. When the rate of water evaporation exceeds the organism’s ability to replace the water, death will eventually occur. You and any other living organism whose body water vapor content has dropped below the optimal level required to maintain healthy body functions is considered dehydrated.

Sharon Kleyne and research center colleagues at Bio-Logic Aqua® Research Water Life Science® have discovered that dry eye is a dehydration disease resulting from accelerated evaporation. The specific role of evaporation in dry eye is explained in the accompanying excerpts from Tear Film and the Treatment of Dry eye Disease, by William D. Mathers, M.D., a continuing education course for pharmacists sponsored by RxSchool.com and Bio-Logic Aqua® Research Water Life Science®. The sections in the book on misting and evaporation were based on unpublished research conducted by Dr. Mathers at Oregon Health and Sciences University – Casey Eye Institute.

Role of evaporation in tear film maintenance

All liquid-to-gas interfaces, according to Dr. Mathers, have a vapor pressure that is temperature dependent and controls the rate of the liquid-to-gas transition. Water, therefore, evaporates into the air until the vapor pressure equilibrates and the air is saturated. This is achieved only when the humidity reaches 100%, which rarely occurs. The surface of the eye (which is 99% water) is subject to evaporative loss that would include the total normal tear production if the surface were not protected by the lipid (oil) layer. A normal lipid layer reduces evaporation extremely effectively, by 95%, and keeps the eye wet.

Measuring evaporation

Evaporation from the ocular surface, Dr. Mathers explains, can be measured by isolating the air around the eye and monitoring the rise in relative humidity. Evaporation will cause the humidity to rise and the rate of rise reflects the evaporation rate. The normal rate of evaporation from the surface of the eye is 15 x 10-2 grams/cm2/second. This was determined from Dr. Mathers’ work, but there has been reasonable agreement between most research groups that have investigated evaporation. A normal tear film evaporation rate is the equivalent of 0.15 microliters per minute. This amounts to 36% of the combined total of tear flow and evaporation in a normal subject, by Dr. Mathers’ estimation. The normal eye loses a relatively small amount to evaporation.

Evaporative dry eye

Evaporation is an important cause of dry eye for two reasons:

1. Some environments are very dry such as deserts, winter air heated to room temperature and airline cabins. Liquid water is most likely to evaporate in the presence of dry air, warm temperatures and wind.

2. Evaporation rates can increase dramatically in some subjects with meibomian gland dysfunction (which produces the lipid layer).

The surface of the eye would quickly dry out were it not for the protective effect of the lipid layer that reduces evaporation. In the normal eye, only a small percentage of tear production evaporates, but in dry eye this can increase to include nearly the total amount produced. Subjects with dry eye that have had both upper and lower punctum occluded usually do not suffer from epiphora (tearing) because all their tears either evaporate or are absorbed by the conjunctiva.

Kleyne, host of the nationally syndicated radio program, The Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water, Global Climate Change and Your Health on VoiceAmerica sponsored by Nature’s Tears® EyeMist®, wants everyone to take the time to understand these facts shared by Dr. Mathers. Vision is a precious gift. All of us need to be proactive about our ocular health and we need to know the facts in order to do that well.

Three Eye & Skin Products That Are Changing The World

Join the Sharon Kleyne Revolution in Pure Water Supplementation. Bio-Logic® Aqua Water Life Science® Supplements Eyes & Skin with Pure Water.

Not so long ago in Grants Pass, Oregon, international water researcher Sharon Kleyne and her research center colleagues at Bio-Logic Aqua® Research Water Life Science® created three products that have changed the way the world’s population finds relieve from dry eye disease, dry skin and dehydration.

At the same time, Kleyne, host of the nationally syndicated The Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water, Global Climate Change and Your Health on VoiceAmerica sponsored by Nature’s Tears® EyeMist®, has been teaching that from the moment a human being surges out of the mother’s watery womb it begins a process of evaporation that continues until death. The eyes and the body must supplement and replenish their evaporating water vapor in order to maintain good health.

In honor of these products and the ongoing research that seeks to understand evaporation and body water supplementation, Bio-Logic Aqua® Water Life Science® shares the following descriptions for these products and their uses.
