Sharon Kleyne Says Air Conditioning Accelerates Body Water Vapor Evaporation

Kleyne Cautions Air Conditioner Users against Dry Eyes & Dry Skin. Water Advocate Kleyne Claims Artificial Environments Can Damage Health.

Summers are long and summers are hot. In developed countries, people spend billions of dollars running air conditioning systems and smaller units to cheat the heat while heat-related deaths in poorer countries soar. This fact doesn’t mean, however, that people in developed countries are always getting the best of it. Sharon Kleyne, host of the nationally syndicated The Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water, Global Climate Change and Your Health on VoiceAmerica sponsored by Nature’s Tears® EyeMist®, wonders how many people know that air conditioning is actually a health hazard? “Air conditioning can cause the skin and the eyes to lose water content,” said Kleyne. “The loss of water content can result in physical dehydration of the skin and eyes, possibly leading to dehydration-related diseases such as dry eye.”

Forced air that circulates through an air conditioner and is cooled achieves an atmospheric imbalance. The cool air will not evaporate to allow the atmosphere to be humid. If the air is too hot, the air will over-evaporate. That’s why water often drips off air conditioners during the heat of summer. Tampering with the natural atmosphere often results in such an imbalance and makes normal breathing harder. It also results in chemical imbalances thanks to insulated windows, walls and synthetic carpeting.

When the air is too warm or too cold, as is often the case, the body will not be able to breathe the atmosphere’s water vapor. This includes the water covering the surface of the eyes and contained in the upper skin layers. The result can be dry eye and dry skin complaints. The eye’s tear film is 99 percent water and the upper skin layers are 70 percent water.
Dry eye and dry skin symptoms include dry and itching eyes, blurred vision, eye strain, fatigue, headache, watery eyes, dry skin, itchy skin and flaky or “ashy” skin.

Kleyne’s suggestions to reduce dehydration from air conditioning or winter heating are here. Crack a window – especially in the bathroom – to let fresh outside air in. Put baffles over heating and cooling vents so the wind doesn’t blow directly on anybody. Set out bowls of water and house plants. The ideal temperature and humidity for comfort and for preventing accelerated surface evaporation from the skin and eyes is 60 to 80 degrees F and 40 to 60 percent relative humidity. Kleyne also suggests that you take a cool bath or shower. Humidify eyes and skin, as needed, with pH balanced, Trade Secret tissue culture grade 100% fresh water found in Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® and/or Nature’s Mist® Face of the Waters®.
